Ok normally I wouldn’t post Sims 3 Medieval up here as well (being an OCD freak who likes only Sims 3 stuff on this blog) but this was just weird. In fact there were three things that were weird (well weirder than usual) about my new kingdom.

It all started in the merchant’s house. Since he put gambling tables out (smart cookie) there have been more and more customers coming into the market. Including the guy seen in the top left photograph. He’s the town crier of this kingdom (the natty outfit is a dead giveaway). Though…is it just me or does he look like  a vampire? To really hammer home the idea of a vampire posing as the town crier whatever/whoever created him gave him the name of…Vladimir. I mean really?! Vladimir with his whiter than white marble skin and glowing eyes? It’s amazing that no one has noticed him yet! :P

The second weird thing (not really weird but just interesting) was the name of the child in the top-right. Since this is a medieval inspired game it was kinda cool to see some Arthurian mythology creeping in when they named the girl ‘Nimue the Urchin’. Just found it interesting to see. :P

The third weird (and REALLY annoying) thing that happened (all in the same quest I may add - the same day too) was the arrival of the trainee chef that was meant to live for a while with the merchant. Apart from the blacksmith’s apprentice who, in previous games has hogged the forge to the point where the blacksmith ends up shooing the kid out to the tavern, I’ve never really minded the other members of heroes’ households. Until that is the chef arrived. The rest of the photographs explain the extent of the mayhem he caused. I’ve heard of being a creative cook but this borders on obsession…with gruel. Bowls and bowls of the stuff on every surface and most of the floor! Sometimes the bowls were eight or nine deep so when the poor merchant went to tidy up there would be many more before the image of the gruel vanished. Needless to say the merchant won’t be allowing the chef to return to his house or use either of his fires EVER again!

Though on another note: should I start a separate medieval blog or not (can’t decide)?

“Jamie,” Devon said, “I’d like to introduce you to a co-worker of mine. She’s another drama intern here. This is Rosamund.”

Jamie looked round to see a large hat walking across the car park towards them. So large and eye-catching it was that it took her a while to notice the body that was attached to it. Rosamund was tall, long-legged and very slim. She was dressed all in white like a 1930s actress and had a smile that could very possibly guide ships safely into harbour as her teeth were incredibly shiny.

“Hey sweetie.” she said with a giggle as she linked an arm through Devon’s.

“The witch has landed.” Billy muttered darkly, “Now it begins…”

Once they’d separated Billy from the unfinished sculpture Jamie and Devon bundled him into the lift and frogmarched him out to the subway where they caught the next train to the suburbs of town. They finally arrived at Devon’s workplace: the Bridgeport Studios.

In the empty village set Billy leant against a fence and glowered at Jamie who was looking around excitedly. Devon had gone to find something and had left them alone.

“Why are we here?” Billy moaned.

“You needed to leave the apartment.” Jamie replied, “Being in that haze of dust could do your lungs some damage.”

Billy paused and sighed, “You do know I smoke, right? How is clay dust any worse?”

“Just be thankful for once.” she replied.

“Shan’t. Can’t. Won’t.”

“Alright. You can sulk then.”

“Don’t mind if I do.” Billy said as he watched Devon trudge towards them across the car park.

The first term went past in a whirlwind. Jamie went to classes, Devon went to work and Billy…did what ever he usually did in his own good time! One Friday when Jamie’s class had been cancelled she was relaxing in her room listening to her old record player. It was a struggle since Billy was chiselling away in sculpture mode next door and making a heck of a racket.

So much so that Jamie didn’t notice when Devon slipped through the curtain that separated her room from the rest of the apartment.

“Sorry.” she apologised, “Was my music too loud?”

“Too…loud?” Devon said confused, “I can’t hear anything over Neanderthal man and his troupe of miners next door. How long has he been in there?”

“Three days.” Jamie said. They both glared at the wall where, on the opposite side, the constant tapping, heavy rock music and occasional cursing leaked through.

“We’ve got to get him out of here.” Jamie said. Devon thought for a moment and nodded.

“I know where.” he said grimly, “But this isn’t going to be pretty.”

They took a deep breath and went to separate Billy from his sculpturing: a task not to be undertaken lightly.

A week later and Jamie had moved into the apartment properly with her multi-coloured furniture she’d painted herself!

That day was foggy in the city. Autumn was taking hold and bringing the overcast skies and strong sea breezes. The diner was the famous Causeway Diner which, while a pain to get out to by subway and taxi, has views of the sea that are almost unrivalled…if you like flat grey horizons with nothing but cold water to be seen!

Soon the pub was closing. The trio downed the last of their drinks and stood up to leave.

“See ya, Devon!” Brandy called excitedly from the bar. She gave him a wink and a smile. Jamie giggled and Billy rolled his eyes. Outside the pub they decided what to do next with bleary eyes and slight headaches. It was almost morning and the city was beginning to stir.

“What now?” Billy asked.

“Well…I need to at some point get my stuff into the apartment.” Jamie said.

“We could give you a hand with shifting it.” Devon said.

“Since when did I volunteer to lug heavy furniture across the city at 4am?” Billy demanded.

“Since of 30 seconds ago. You are not wriggling out of this.” Devon said.

“We…could get breakfast first.” Jamie intervened, “My treat. I know a really great diner.”

There was a moment of silence in which it was possible to see the cogs whirring inside Billy’s head. Finally he shrugged.

“Ok. If its not too far and the stuff isn’t too heavy.”

“Let’s go.” Devon said.

“Hello again, Brandy.” Devon said reaching for her hand. The girl looked suspiciously at him as Devon shook it warmly.

“How are you?” Devon asked continuing the charm offensive.

“I remember you,” Brandy said with narrowed eyes, “Aren’t you with him?” She gestured at Billy.

“I prefer to think of ‘him’ as ‘it’ and yes, regrettably, I am but only in the role of a baby sitter to make sure he doesn’t make a scene. So please have mercy on me and our new flatmate and pour us something to drink. Something to numb the pain of having to watch Billy?”

Brandy laughed strangely and fluttered her eyelashes, “Of course, of course. Sit down and I’ll fix you something. On the house!”

“What the f…” Billy began but was cut off when Devon kicked his bar stool.

“I don’t believe this.” Billy groaned. He yelped when Brandy nearly crushed his hand under a tray of glasses. When the drinks were poured Devon took one over to Jamie and said with a little bit of smugness:

“Mission accomplished.”

Billy walked confidently up to the bar and smacked his hand down on it.

“Hey, Brandy!” he called to the bar maid who turned away and ignored him.

“Why is she ignoring him?” Jamie asked.

“Does anyone need a reason to ignore Billy?” Devon said but quickly noticed Jamie’s look and added, “They were an item at some point until Billy’s eye went…wandering. It was a messy breakup. Billy crying all over the place.”

“Seriously?”

“Well maybe not Billy crying but she did give him a black eye. Remind me to show you the photos sometime.”

“Devon.” Jamie said in a warning tone, “You’re an actor, right? Go help him out or all we’ll have got out of this outing will have been a second-hand smoking addiction.”

Devon sighed, adjusted his shirt and said, “Watch and learn.” to Billy who was slumped at the bar defeated by Brandy.

“I can’t look.” Billy muttered.

Jamie decided to take the other room which was about the size of Billy’s with an extra window. As a welcome party Devon asked if she’d go for a drink with them. Billy (now cheered up by the prospect of a drink decided to take them to his local bar). Unfortunately Devon wasn’t so thrilled when they arrived:

Billy: Here it is!

Devon: I can’t believe I let you choose the bar. Again.

Billy: Well toughen up. You’re amongst my people now.

Devon: Yes I can see that. They make stone age men looked positively intellectual.

Billy: It’ll look better once you get some drink inside you.

Devon: I can hardly contain my excitement.
